PRESENT
UNITS MARKINGS IF ANY:
We restored the truck with the aim of placing it in an Explosive Ordnance
Disposal unit serving in Vietnam but could find almost no information as to how
it should be marked. We assumed it should have red fenders (Wings to the
British) but more than one veteran told us, "They may have arrived red but that
attracted incoming fire, so everything got painted green very quickly."
After contacting a number of veterans that popped up on various web
sites, we were still none the wiser as to the correct unit markings. Eventually
we had the good fortune to speak to Sgt. Major Ed Komac retired, EOD Special
Forces, who did three tours in country. Ed had little memory of vehicle
markings, because as he said " He had other more pressing things on his mind".
Ed is still in contact with a number of veterans from that period and one of
them had some very useful information. An email arrived one day from Douglas
"Dusty" Rhodes, and it was he that supplied the details we needed to complete
the restoration. We would like to thank both these gentlemen for the invaluable
help that they gave to us.
The 184th operated out of Qui Nhom and in the same area of operations as
the 8th Transport Group. They arrived from Fort Sill USA and departed Vietnam
