So
you like what you have seen and wonder: Could I become a
member!

You
need to be 18 years old or over and have your own means
of transportation to and from shows,
be a Vietnam
Militaria collector, a Re-enactor or a Vietnam Military
vehicle owner, all of course with a strong interest and
knowledge of the Vietnam War or the Indochina War.
You will
also be required to attend a minimum of one event per year.
If you are a vehicle owner, this will have to be
authentically restored and of the Vietnam Period.
You also must have the minimum uniform and equipment
required before applying to join us
which will have to be done in the form of an introductory
email.
Only if you fulfill these requirements, will you be
invited to meet us in full uniform at an event,
for an
introduction day or weekend.
If you feel that Rolling Thunder is the
right group for you and we feel that you will be a
positive addition, the committee will invite you to join for a probationary
period of one year.
The
probationary period can be extended or withdrawn by the
Committee if the groups standards are not meet or
sustained.
On completion of a successful probationary period you
will be extended a full Rolling Thunder Membership.
Please note:
Due to our success, recruiting is limited as we are
running most years at full capacity.
Our members must be
professional and committed to what we do, after all, we
are trusted with the history of units were
many brave
men died in combat.
We have not earned the right to wear these uniforms, so
YOU must make the families and the veterans proud of
what we do by getting it RIGHT!
Kit/Uniform
minimum requirements to apply may vary a little as to what
unit or period you want to represent,
but mainly consist of:
helmet, hat, jacket, trousers boots and relevant webbing
as a strict minimum
and may vary according to what impression
you are striving to achieve.
If genuine uniform is still available in your size, we
will in most cases require you to use them instead of
reproduction uniform,
please check before with us prior to buying a
reproduction as many do not meet our standards.
Repro webbing is not allowed.
*
We would encourage any new members to purchase genuine
uniforms and gear and treat this as an investment,
copies/repro
will only loose you money!

Now
a bit more about us:
Rolling Thunder is
not your usual Living History group, we don't do the
usual field weekends or BB gun battles and we don't
limit ourselves to portraying one unit. What we do is
bring to the public an overview of Vietnam war by
displaying our private collections and military
vehicles, we bring to people "The Vietnam
Experience".
At
the War and Peace show, our main event, we do put on
battle displays where members after weapons training are
allowed to participate. Battle simulation is dangerous
and as we take our members security seriously, only a
few of us are allowed to participate.
Members can build or provide their own display or help
building our collective one. By doing so, we bring to
the public that sensation of having been as close to the
conflict as possible, and hopefully they will leave our
display with a newly acquired knowledge about the
Vietnam War and its soldiers from both sides.
Please
note that shows are often in remote areas and members
must be able to bring not only their personal kits and
uniforms but also personal food and bedding, so this is
essential for you to have your own transport.
This
may sound harsh to some of you, but we do not look for
"Campers", "Rambos" "Weekend
Wannebees" but
for people and collectors really interested into the
Vietnam wars and it soldiers and willing to put some
real effort into creating a Living Memorial to those who
died in Vietnam.
Thank
you for your interest, if you fill the above criteria
and would like to join us.
